Fostering a Positive Learning Environment

Fostering a positive learning environment that inspires impact and success

St Monica’s has a long tradition of providing excellent education to families in Melbourne’s West. From humble beginnings when the first tent school was set up on the banks of the Salt Water (Maribyrnong) River over 165 years ago St Monica’s has been living out its mission to ‘make a difference,’ in the lives of its students and their families.

At St Monica’s we are all about Learning and Teaching. It is our passion. Educators work closely with students drawing upon the Victorian Curriculum in multiple areas including English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science, Physical education, LOTE – Italian, the Arts and Wellbeing. Our curriculum is knowledge-rich in design and equips our students with the necessary tools and understanding to help make sense of their world, connecting learning with everyday experiences.

We recognise the need to develop global competencies including digital technology capability, skilful communication, problem-solving, self-direction, critical and creative thinking, collaboration and community connectedness. We believe that effective communication helps young people communicate ideas, become better listeners and engage respectfully with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

St Monica’s school values nurturing relationships with others and the world around us. We invite all to journey with us as lifelong learners. Working collaboratively, we provide a quality education for students through meaningful, innovative learning and faith-filled experiences. We embrace parent engagement and pride ourselves in building strong family and community partnerships.

We aim to be an inclusive, connected, high quality learning community in which faith inspires action
